one of a kind.
handmade.
sustainable.
every piece of fabric tells a story.
The story my handmade items tell is the story of upcycling, slow fashion and using what we already have. I make bags, purses, aprons, and quilts that are beautiful, functional, and sewn from secondhand fabric and upcycled clothing.
it started with
an apron
Often a garment associated with femininity and housekeeping, I developed a fascination with aprons and their history and soon realized how versatile an apron really is. Chefs wear aprons, welders wear aprons, servers wear aprons, gardeners and landscapers wear aprons– an apron is a commonplace item in dozens of vocations. The fascination with such a practical piece of clothing inspired me to found Cover Me Carry Me: a sustainable business that handcrafts quality everyday items for functional use. This combines my passion for sewing and my passion for stewardship, allowing me to do something I enjoy while taking care of the world around me.
Cover Me Carry Me has existed for more than a decade as a hobby business but in 2022, I relaunched to open my online shop and really make my business my own. In addition to being a seamstress and business owner, Beth is a wife and mom to two boys. an avid reader, and loves being outside, especially camping.
Cover Me Carry Me gives second life to something that might end up in the waste stream but instead becomes a loved item that is used daily. Stewardship of the earth is my number one value.
about
Stewardship is the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one’s care. My sewn items honor the resources, labor, and raw materials used to create an item of clothing or a piece of fabric. This in return reduces the demand for new items. Through this process I learn the story about an item and I add to that story by creating something new to be used and enjoyed. Cover Me Carry Me makes one of a kind, sustainable, handmade items with a story. For example, your shirt might tell the story of fast fashion, disposability, and planned obsolescence. The story my handmade items tell is the story of upcycling, slow fashion and using what we already have. Using secondhand items, as the source or supply chain. I make bags, purses, aprons, and quilts that are beautiful, functional, and sewn from secondhand fabric and upcycled clothing.
